Last summer, my daughter and I had planned a drive along the coast. It turned out to be a stormy day. We decided to go anyway, despite the weather, as we would not have another chance for quite some time. It was warm and humid, and pouring rain with thunder and lightening. (Lightening is quite amazing at the ocean!) It was the kind of conditions where it is difficult to keep your windshield from fogging up. We continued on, hoping for a break in the rain and a chance to walk along the beach. When the rain finally did stop, the atmosphere was just magical! It was hauntingly beautiful, as if it were a dream or fantasy. It was humid but there was a sea breeze. It was dark and it was light at the same time like being on a dark stage under a spotlight. It seems to have left a permanent impression in my memory. I wonder if it always looks that way on all stormy days at the beach or if it was just that particular day. In this painting, I tried to capture the atmosphere of a warm summer day after a storm.
